FAQ: Should I purchase the new Acoustic Guitar DVD ? I already own Paul’s videos Volume I and Volume II for acoustic guitar.

Answer:

Beginning in 1995, Paul released a set of 3 instructional videos titled “Worship Guitar Series” :

Worship Guitar Series : Acoustic Guitar Volume I (90 minutes)
Worship Guitar Series : Acoustic Guitar Volume II (90 minutes)
Worship Guitar Series : Electric Guitar (80 minutes)

Volume I and II were probably the first instructional videos available for worship team guitar players and lead worshipers and were beginning to look dated. Additionally, videotape degrades over time, does not allow the user to quickly skip to a particular chapter, and can’t be viewed in countries where different video systems are used. The included companion workbook was also limited in scope.

A few months ago, Paul returned to the studio and re-filmed his acoustic guitar instruction. The material on the new DVD is not an exact copy of the previous 2 acoustic guitar videos because Paul’s teachings have evolved over the last 10 years. It does cover many of the same concepts. However, the quality of the new DVD is a significant improvement over the videos because we used :

* newer, higher quality, digital cameras
* 3 different camera angles to better demonstrate strumming patterns, finger picking techniques, and chord voicings
* new live recording footage to play along with
* a new, 33 page (8½ by 11) companion workbook

DVD’s can hold more information than a standard length video tape, so instead of using two DVD’s, we were able to record all 2 ½ hours on one dual layer DVD.

Instead of including the original workbooks which came with the videos, Paul wrote a new and expanded companion workbook, containing more than 200 chord diagrams. This includes all the chords that Paul is playing on the DVD with accurate references to the counter on your DVD player. You can download the companion workbook (“BOOK” would be more accurate) from our website after you purchase the DVD.

In conclusion : the new Acoustic Guitar DVD is a major upgrade up from the previous 2 acoustic guitar videos.

The electric guitar video is a more recent product, filmed in 2000 with Glenn Pearce (Michael W. Smith’s electric guitar player). Because it is still a new product, we re-mastered the original footage, included a DVD menu and chapter markers, and released it on DVD. Paul did re-write the companion workbook and it now comes with a new and expanded, 17 pg downloadable workbook.

We’ve made a note on the back cover of the Electric Guitar DVD stating “ORIGINALLY RELEASED ON VHS AS THE “WORSHIP GUITAR SERIES: ELECTRIC GUITAR”. RE-MASTERED FOR DVD.”

Hope this answers your questions.
