Open Sound Check

This is an optional workshop: Join the Paul Baloche Band and Front of House Engineer John Willis as they sound check for Friday night's Evening of Worship. Observe and learn.

Worship Night

A Worship night with Paul Baloche and his band.

Opening Worship

This session will be very fluid.... Paul will begin with a time of worship that may last 30 to 60 minutes or longer. He may also touch on some principals of worship leading relevant to the entire team or ask others on the team to share.

AM Breakout Sessions

Paul Baloche

During this session, Paul will address the core values that should be the heart attitude of every worship team:

  • your personal ministry to the Lord
  • learning to serve before learning to lead
  • conversation and community and creating a journey of worship

Michael Neale

Without a doubt, the most important instrument on any worship team is YOUR VOICE. Michael will cover important concepts like proper warmup exercises and other key fundamentals about using your voice in worship. This session will repeat at 1:15 PM.

Jared Henderson

In this introductory workshop, Jared will cover set-up, tuning, groove and fill development, playing with loops, flowing with different leaders, ministering to the people, and more.

Ed Kerr

Ed will focus on the essential sounds in the keyboard player's palette: piano, pad, organ and strings. He'll describe the unique playing style necessary for each and play numerous examples from modern worship recordings as examples. Since pads are featured in so many songs, extra focus will be given to creating pad parts.

Ben Gowell

In this class Ben will cover a variety of different fretboard techniques - chord shapes, scales, exercises, etc. Ben will also talk about the role of the electric guitar in a modern worship band and offer helpful advice for complementing the rest of the band and not competing with them.

Michael Rossback

Michael will begin by explaining the use of gear, pedals, tone, picking, etc. He will continue with covering scales, basic theory, and how the bass player can best support the band, when to stay out of the way, using 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16 notes, etc.

John Willis

John Willis has mixed live sound for 80 people in the smallest of churches and for 80,000 in arena venues around the world. He is the owner of PHG, the largest audio and production company in Northern Ireland. Rather than a general lecture, this session will mostly be a Q&A format where John will answer your specific audio questions.

Lunch Break

Please keep an eye on the time as we will commence afternoon workshops at 1:15 PM.

PM Breakout Sessions

Paul Baloche

Paul will take you through the steps of writing worship songs that have impact, from capturing inspired moments, to making sure that all the elements of your song work together to support the feeling of your message.

Michael Neale

This will be an exact repeat of the 10:45 AM vocal workshop.

Jared Henderson

A more in-depth drummer's workshop for the more experienced drummer.

Ed Kerr

Understanding chord theory helps create effective keyboard parts. Reading a chord chart from a song from the morning worship set, we'll see how the chords influence what parts to play. Concepts shown will result in parts that will work well as complements to what guitarists play.

  • mapping out a song
  • thinking like an arranger
  • band dynamics and tempo
  • creating an atmosphere of worship
This workshop will end with a Q&A session. Bring your questions and we will answer as many as time allows.
